There's a general agreement between practitioners in both the conventional and alternative cancer treatment worlds that detoxification of heavy metals and toxins is a good thing. We get them from dietary sources, such as some processed foods or from fertilizers and sprays used on some food crops, but that is controllable somewhat in that we make our choices about what we eat. We also get them atmospherically from pollution and as a by-product of some industrial processes and depending where we live, this can be a little or a lot of uncontrollable exposure. A good cancer detoxification program should be part of your alternative cancer treatment or prevention plan.

A good cancer detoxification program is basically intended to rid your body of a bunch of the bad stuff that can lead to cancer and other diseases. Not surprisingly there are all sorts of detox programs out there to treat everything from obesity to cancer. It's reassuring to know that practicing a cancer detox program for one ailment will almost always have a positive impact on any others you might have or want to prevent. A good cancer detox program is also good for disease prevention. One approach that I find kind of interesting is that involving something called a zeolite.

Zeolite is a volcanic mineral created when ash and lava reacted chemically to sea water. Zeolites are one of the few minerals that have negatively (-) charged ions which can attract the positive (+) ions in the toxins and heavy metals. The result is something that can best be described as a magnetic cage that can trap and store heavy metals and toxins. It then carries them out of the body as waste in the urine. So you can see how zeolites could be an attractive part of any cancer detox program. But a bit of caution is required.

You should be aware that there is also a number of zeolite products designed specifically for industrial processes such as concrete or swimming pool filtration, and not deemed fit for human consumption. There are between 50-60 different forms of zeolite mined in the world, two of them quite toxic to humans. The beneficial form of zeolite is called clinoptilolite. Sometimes one of the toxic forms of zeolite called erionite is found with clinoptilolite.

The equipment to test for erionite is very expensive and so most commercial mines don't test for erionite since the zeolite is intended for commercial purposes and testing is an unnecessary expense. Many mines also include additives for commercial purposes that can be dangerous to ingest. When considering the use of any zeolite product for any health related matter, do your research and ensure that you are getting something that won't harm your body.

There are dry and liquid forms of zeolites commercially available. There are several companies making several claims about zeolites suggesting one form is better than the other for various reasons. The dry powder zeolite folks are saying that the process to make the liquids destroys the magnetic cage and frees up the heavy metals and toxins to be absorbed back in to your body. The liquid zeolite folks are saying that liquids are more readily absorbed into your system at a cellular level and, subsequently more effective than the powder zeolites. Almost all suggest that zeolites can be used to absorb toxins, free radicals and heavy metals from your body.

They also promote zeolite as an immune system booster, antioxidant, as well as increasing the pH level in your body. There's enough scientific evidence published to suggest that these claims may be somewhat true. But there's also a bit of a marketing war going between the various zeolite companies that represents some mud-slinging and allegations that are just short of libelous, in my opinion. So it's tough to decide which way to go when trying to find the right zeolite product.

At the very least, when choosing a zeolite product, you want to make sure that it is safe for human consumption. It should be approved by your country's regulatory health authority, such as the Federal Drug Agency (FDA) in the US, or Health Canada. Despite the questionable track record of some federal agencies around the world, at the very least they should have some legal requirement to have ingredients posted on the labels. If the ingredients aren't on the bottle, you may want to consider looking at something else or at least asking more questions of the manufacturer.

Another consideration is the daily intake amount you need. There's scientific evidence that suggests between 4,000 mg to 15,000 mg per day so when researching a product make sure that it comes in a form that will allow you to get this amount without having to eat or drink several bottles at one time. One other thing to consider is that a lot of the scientific evidence that is readily available is based on research done with micronized dry powders and not so much the liquid forms.

There are no fixed dosage levels for this process of treating cancer. Though effective, this method has an advantage of being a temporary solution. The drug that is administered does fight the disease and tries to recover the cells, but the effects of it are short-lived. The dosage and the frequency increases with time in this type of treatment method. Radiation Therapy

Like other types of cancer treatments, the Radiation therapy also aims at destructing the diseased cells and in preventing their spread or growth. In this method, high energy x-rays are used instead of drugs to destroy the abnormal cells. These x-rays damage the DNA of the diseased cells thus killing these cells. The method of radiation therapy is in general done at regular intervals so as to provide enough timelines for the other normal cells that also get damaged to recover well. As we saw the radiation therapy method does hurt other normal cells also along with the diseased ones. The damage that is created on the cancerous cells is more than that created in normal cells and hence the normal cells do not suffer destruction like the diseased cells and recover soon.

Hormone Therapy

In some cases, hormones that help in growth of the tumor are counter attacked by giving drugs that act to inhibit such hormonal actions. This method is followed in the hormonal therapy where hormones that help increase the disease effects and symptoms are inhibited by administration of anti-effect drugs. As an example, estrogen is known to promote growth of diseased cells in breast cancer and hence treatment for breast cancer through hormonal methods includes administration of anti-estrogen drugs to the patient.

Modern Methods

Lemongrass tea has a wide application in a variety of medical fields but its prospects as a potential partner in cancer treatment has increasingly captured the attention of observers. Lemongrass tea is an herbal tisane derived from the aromatic perennial herb native to southeast Asia. It is widely used as a decorative plant but is also utilized as a flavoring ingredient in many exotic cuisines.

While many people are not familiar with how lemongrass looks like, many are very familiar with how it tastes like. The herb has made itself popular to many Western palates through its central role in flavoring the Thai soup of tom yam gung. Indeed, its lemony, somewhat minty and tangy flavor has made it one of the most distinguishable components of many Thai and southeast Asian delicacies.

Recent studies on this cheerful-tasting herb have suggested that lemongrass may be something more than just an herb that injects a measure of culinary delight. Researchers in Israel discovered that a substance in lemongrass tea and essential oil called citral may trigger the death of cancer cells while at the same time cause no harm to healthy cells.

Cancer cells isolated in a Petri dish were found to have undergone apoptosis or programmed cell death when they came in contact with lemongrass. Scientists attempting to explain this phenomenon in layman's terms have said that the cancer cells were said to have "committed suicide" when they came in contact with the lemongrass and its critical constituent of citral. Interestingly and more remarkably, healthy cells likewise isolated in a Petri dish did not behave similarly when these were also exposed to the lemongrass. Instead, they remained healthy.

It should be noted that apoptosis is the natural programmed response by cells whenever they discover that their control system is not functioning properly, i.e. when flawed genetic material appears following normal cell division. Cancer cells, on the other hand, 'ignore' the rules of apoptosis as these divide continuously and uncontrollably.

The research seemingly found that this normal apoptosis process may have been reactivated in the cancer cells by the citral in the lemongrass. The amount of citral used in this research was equivalent to that found in a cup of lemongrass tea using 1 gram of the herb placed in hot water. As a result, the researchers have suggested that lemongrass tea and other herbs containing the substance citral may be used as a preventative against certain forms of cancer.

Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States has not given a reaction to these Israeli research findings and generally maintains its stance that only products that underwent their sanctioned tests and research are the approved methodologies for treating cancer. As such, the FDA generally stands by the conventional and generally-accepted protocols for the treatment of cancer.

For their part, the researchers concede that their results on lemongrass need to be explored further but are of the opinion that patients looking for all possible avenues to fight their cancer ought to utilize the possible beneficial properties of natural food products. Cancer is a disease that has multiplied exponentially in the past ten years and it wasn't until recently that alkaline and cancers were found to hold an important relationship. In the past 60 years, cancer has become an epidemic and this relationship has become very significant. Our population has become a sedentary nation as a whole, while eating fast foods and processed foods that offer no nutritional value. We didn't do this on purpose, but as our schedules got more hectic and confusing, our world began to move faster with the technology and our diet went out the window. This is when cancer began to creep into our lives and it was discovered that cancer grows in an acidic blood stream, but cannot grow in an alkaline one.

As scientists began to study the components of the disease, they began to find out exactly what cancer is and where it came from. Cancer is basically deformed cells that gather in one area of the body, such as breast cancer or lung cancer, and if left alone will overtake the entire body. Cancer will be transferred through the blood system, and that means that it can go anywhere the blood can go.

The blood system is the carrier system of the body. It carries nutrients as well as germs, and it always carries oxygen - the more the better. As scientists studied cancer, they found there were two characteristics that they was associated when disease was present, and they were 1) the more oxygen that was in the blood stream, the less disease was carried, and 2) if the blood was alkaline, instead of acidic, the disease could not grow in an alkaline system.

This information is now readily known in the scientific world, but not so much in the practical world that the public lives in. For cancer prevention doctors will tell their patients to eat more fruits and vegetables, along with lean meats, but never tell them why. By eating a diet that is filled with these foods, you are creating an alkaline system in your body, and this means that you are creating a system that does not invite disease, and this goes for cancer, too.

If your diet is made up of fast foods, processed foods along white sugar and white flour, then your system will be acidic, and that is just what cancer needs to grow rapidly in. If you eat those foods that create an acidic base, then you are aiding in the death of your good cells.

Keeping your system in an alkaline state is a matter of eating the right foods, drinking lots of water and maintaining a proper balance with acidic and alkaline and cancer. To find the right foods, search online for an alkaline/acidic chart so that you can plainly see the acidic-producing foods on one side and the alkaline producing foods on the other. Make a copy so that you can take it with you when you shop and you will be less likely to pick up the bad foods. Choose 80% from the alkaline list and 20% from the acidic and to check your level, go to any health food store and ask for ph strips, and read the directions. Typically when the strip turns blue, that is a good ph level, which is 7.2- 7.8% in your blood composition.

Kidney cancer is a cancer that begins in the kidneys. The kidneys are part of the body’s urinary system, which filters waste products out of the blood in the form of urine. Kidney cancer starts in the cells of the kidney. The two kidneys are found on either side of the backbone, deep inside the upper part of the abdomen and protected by the lower ribs. People who are very overweight have a higher risk of developing renal cell cancer. Obesity is a factor in about 2 out of 10 people who get this cancer. Exposure to asbestos or cadmium applies to many people who were exposed to these substances in their jobs. Some people inherit a tendency to grow certain types of cancer. Kidney cancer can be caused by some rare inherited conditions. People who have these conditions have a much higher risk for getting kidney cancer, although they account for only a small portion of cases overall. Treatment for kidney cancer will depend on the stage of the cancer. Surgery is the initial treatment for the majority of kidney cancers.

Surgical procedures used to treat kidney cancer include remove the whole kidney (radical nephrectomy). Surgery to remove part of your kidney (partial nephrectomy) means that the surgeon will only take away the diseased part of the kidney. Through these multiple openings, the surgeon carefully removes the kidney. This approach has significantly improved the recovery process, though carries increased risk of complications. It requires specialized training of the surgeon, and though widely available throughout the United States, it is not as readily available as a standard, open nephrectomy.

Radiation Therapy: Radiation therapy, also called irradiation or radiotherapy, involves the use of high energy waves (500-1000 times the energy of a normal x-ray) to treat cancer. These invisible rays enter the body at a very specific point directed by a plan developed by the radiation oncologist. They disrupt the activity of any cells in their path, damaging or killing both healthy and cancerous cells.
